Durante el Programa Bracero (1942-1964), miles de mexicanos trabajaron legalmente en Estados Unidos en la agricultura y el ferrocarril. A cada trabajador se le descontaba el diez por ciento del salario para un fondo de ahorro, pero una vez en México los ahorros no les fueron devueltos en su totalidad. ¿Con qué objeto se estableció el ahorro y por qué no se regresó el dinero? Desde una discusión a partir de la relación olvido-memoria, el artículo explica qué hizo posible que un problema del pasado, olvidado durante años, irrumpiera en 1998 en forma de movimiento social para lograr la recuperación de esos ahorros de los braceros.
