Likewise, in case we have cited our own work, we have made sure that we have referred to your our own references in the third person. For example, “Durán and Fernández (2007) have demonstrated”, instead of “We have previously demonstrated (Durán and Fernández, 2007)”. Complete and explicit information on authorities and other personal details will be included in a second version, once the manuscript has been approved. Another file is also sent with biographical-curricular information: name of the authors, current institutional affiliation, last academic degree, private and institutional address, ORCID ID, and email address to be published. If the article is the result of some research, include information about the project in which you participate. Acknowledgments do not exceed 30 words.

-
The text is drafted in letter size, in Times New Roman point 12, spaced 1.5, justified alignment. Top and bottom margin 2.5 cm., Right and left 3 cm. Footnotes are drafted in Times New Roman 10 pts.
-
An abstract of the article is included on the first page of the submitted text, in the language in which the text is written, together with a translated abstract in English or Spanish, as the case may be, with an extension of 150 to 200 words each. The abstract must include a synthetic description of the topic, its hypothesis, the research method used and the main conclusions.
-
At lest six (6) 'key words' are included, separated by commas, placed immediately after the abstract, for the purpose of bibliographic indexing.
-
Photographs and illustrations are numbered and titled, and have a resolution of 300 pixels per inch (dpi), in TIFF or PNG format. If these are JPG files, they are attached in the highest possible quality. It is the responsibility of the authors to also send the necessary permissions for the publication of images covered by any type of copyright.
-
The text has a minimum of 7,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words, including citations, footnotes, tables, graphs, and illustrations, and excluding abstracts, keywords, and bibliography.
-
The text, citations, and bibliographical references adhere to and comply with the criteria established in the Guidelines for Authors, within the journal's Editorial Policies.
-
I have read and accept the authors' responsibilities that guarantee the ethical principles of scientific publication.

I declare, as the person responsible for the submission, that this document does not have more authors than those indicated, as in the editing process no more names shall be added
Author Guidelines
Letras Históricas is a peer-reviewed academic journal, continuously published by the Universidad de Guadalajara. All submitted articles must be the result of historical research or works that contribute to and enrich the analysis of classical or contemporary theories in historiography, philosophy of history, and other related disciplines. Submissions must be original, unpublished, and of high academic quality. They must not be under review or committed to any other journal or editorial entity. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process, evaluated by at least two reviewers from the journal’s panel of esteemed scholars from national and international institutions. In cases of conflicting reviews, a third review will be requested. The reviewers’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
Submission Guidelines
- The submitted manuscript must be original and unpublished and must not be under consideration by any other journal or editorial entity, either in Spanish or any other language.
- The file must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (*.doc, *.docx).
- To ensure anonymity in the double-blind peer review process, a version of the manuscript must be provided without references to funding sources, acknowledgments, or any headers or footers that could identify the authors. Additionally, if authors cite their own previous work, references must be written in the third person (e.g., “Durán and Fernández (2007) have demonstrated” instead of “We have previously demonstrated (Durán and Fernández, 2007)”). A second version with full author details will be required once the manuscript has passed peer review. Authors must also submit a separate file containing biographical information, including:
- Full name of the authors
- Current institutional affiliation
- Highest academic degree
- Personal and institutional addresses
- ORCID ID
- Email address to be published
If the article results from a research project, the project details must be included. Acknowledgments must not exceed 30 words.
- The title must be provided in both Spanish and English, must not exceed 25 words, and should clearly reflect the content, location, and approximate timeframe, as applicable.
- The first page of the manuscript must include an abstract in the language of the article and an English abstract (150–200 words each). The abstract should provide a concise description of the topic, premises, hypothesis, research method, and main conclusions.
- At least six keywords must be provided in both Spanish and English, separated by commas, immediately after the abstract, for bibliographic indexing purposes.
- Photographs and illustrations must be numbered, titled, and have a resolution of 300 dpi, in TIFF or PNG format. If provided in JPG format, they must be of the highest quality. Preferably, original images should be submitted. If applicable, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for publishing copyrighted images.
- The article must have a minimum of 7,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words, including citations, footnotes, tables, graphs, and illustrations, but excluding abstracts, keywords, and the bibliography.
- The main text should clearly differentiate the author's statements from cited sources. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and reserved strictly for essential clarifications or citing unpublished primary sources. Explanatory or secondary content should be incorporated into the main text whenever possible. For citation guidelines, consult the referencing and citation guide.
Citations and References
-
Double quotation marks should be used for direct quotations or definitions. Avoid using quotation marks for isolated words, jargon, or imprecise phrases.
-
In Spanish quotations, follow the original spelling, capitalization, italics, and punctuation.
-
Short quotations (prose under 40 words or poetry up to two lines) should be incorporated within the text, enclosed in double quotation marks. If a verse citation includes a line break, it should be marked with a vertical bar ( | ). Long quotations should be set apart as block quotes. If multiple short quotations are compared or contrasted, they may also be formatted as a block quote.
-
Single quotation marks should be used for quotations within short quotations.
-
When a short quotation appears at the end of a sentence, the period should be placed outside the closing quotation mark. If the quotation includes a question mark or exclamation point, both the punctuation and the period should appear outside the quotation mark.
-
Long quotations must be separated from the main text, without quotation marks, and set in 11-point font with left indentation. Verse quotations should follow the original format. Parenthetical references should be placed outside the final punctuation mark.
-
References must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style, most recent edition. Direct citations must always include page numbers. If no pagination exists, authors must justify their omission. Examples of in-text citations: (Durán Moncada, 2022, pp. 34–40) / (Fernández & Muresu, 1980, p. 102; Candelas Granados, 2019, pp. 34, 45, 68) / (Mendoza et al., 2016, pp. 103–200, 234).
-
Primary and secondary sources must be listed separately in the reference section. Unpublished primary sources should be alphabetically listed before edited primary sources.
-
Unpublished primary sources should be cited in footnotes and include full archival references upon first mention. Subsequent references may use abbreviations. Examples:
First reference: British Library, MS Cotton Caligula D III, fol. 15
Later reference: MS Cotton Caligula D III, fols. 17v–19r
First reference: Biblioteca Riccardiana (BRF), MS 2306
Later reference: BRF, MS 2306, fol. 10r
-
Online sources should be cited with DOI or URL, not both. DOIs provide a stable reference, while URLs should include full links (http:// or https://).
-
References to artworks, musical recordings, TV broadcasts, and speeches should follow APA guidelines.
Orthographic and Typographic Guidelines
- All submissions must be grammatically and orthographically correct. Manuscripts with excessive errors will be rejected in the initial review stage, before peer review.
- Texts must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified, on letter-sized pages with 2.5 cm top and bottom margins and 3 cm left and right margins. Footnotes must be 10 pt.
- Images, graphs, tables, and charts must be submitted as separate files and clearly marked in the main text where they should appear.
- Special characters should not be used in place of letters or vowels.
- The editorial board reserves the right to make style modifications to improve readability.
