Abstract

The present article is an analysis of the state of the art that keeps the theme of anthropophagy among Native Americans at the end of the 20th century and in the present century. Supported in a selected bibliography, for the updated, it is been discussed Luis Pancorbo’s “El banquete humano” because it represents the continuation of colonial interpretations on the subject in question, while denying anthropophagy in the European world. In our case, we start from the thesis that the anthropophagy of the natives must be explained in the light of cultural issues and not as Pancorbo does, who conceives it as a product of the need for animal protein.
