Abstract

This paper aims to analyze public health actions against smallpox in Jalisco during the 19th and 20th centuries. To achieve this, the Jalisco Historical Archive was consulted, as well as government reports and interviews were conducted with subjects who participated in the process of eradicating the disease. It is proposed that the measures implemented throughout the study period underwent modifications and did not follow linear progress, however, it should be noted that some of them persisted and managed to become institutionalized, such was the case of vaccination.
