Procedure and arbitration
All new contributors must register at: https://letrashistoricas.cucsh.udg.mx/index.php/LH/user/register, where they must complete the registration form and register as authors.
Once a username and password have been generated, contributors must access the journal’s Personal Area, where they will have the option to submit their proposal through a new submission.
Through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform of Letras Históricas, authors will be able to follow the editorial and peer-review process to which their submissions will be subjected.
Only articles submitted through this platform and meeting all editorial, formal, ethical, and academic requirements established by the journal will be accepted for evaluation.
Once a submission has been sent, authors agree not to submit it simultaneously for consideration by other publications.
If an article is accepted for publication, its authors agree not to publish it elsewhere, in the same form, without authorisation from the Editorial Board.
Prior to peer review, all manuscripts undergo similarity screening with Turnitin in order to detect plagiarism, self-plagiarism, redundant publication, undeclared textual similarities, and possible content assisted by artificial intelligence. Turnitin licences are provided by the Universidad de Guadalajara.
The acceptance of submissions depends on the confidential evaluation of at least two anonymous specialists under a double-blind peer-review model. This means that the identity of the authors will not be disclosed to the reviewers, and the identity of the reviewers will not be disclosed to the authors during the evaluation process.
Reviewers will be selected on the basis of their academic trajectory, area of specialisation, relevance to the manuscript, and absence of conflicts of interest. In all cases, reviewers may not belong to the same institution of affiliation as any of the manuscript’s authors. Likewise, the journal will seek to ensure that reviewers belong to different academic institutions.
The evaluation results will indicate whether the submission: A) may be published without modifications; B) may be published after incorporating the required modifications; or C) requires substantial modifications and is not recommended for publication.
In the event of conflicting evaluations, the manuscript will be sent to a third review, whose result will contribute to determining its acceptance or rejection.
The result will be communicated to the authors through an evaluation report. The estimated timeframe for communicating the result of the evaluation process will be less than six months; however, this timeframe may vary depending on the number of articles under review, the availability of specialists, and the thematic complexity of the manuscript.
The peer-review process is determined by the number of articles in the review queue.
Letras Históricas reserves the right to advance or postpone accepted articles according to the editorial planning of each issue, editing schedules, and the journal’s academic needs.
For manuscripts that receive a favourable evaluation, the Editor-in-Chief may request the modifications deemed necessary on the basis of the reviewers’ reports. Once these changes have been made, the text will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and, where appropriate, a final acceptance letter may be issued. Once accepted, the text may not be modified without editorial authorisation.
If the peer-review outcome is favourable with modifications, authors must submit the revised version of the text in accordance with the reviewers’ requests within no more than 14 calendar days from the date on which they receive the editorial notification.
Along with the revised text, authors must submit a document clearly indicating the changes made and the way in which the observations received were addressed.
The journal’s editorial team reserves the right to make copyediting changes, formatting adjustments, bibliographic normalisation, metadata review, and any editorial changes necessary to improve the clarity, consistency, and formal quality of the work.
The content of published contributions is the sole responsibility of their authors. The opinions, arguments, data, interpretations, and conclusions expressed in the texts do not necessarily reflect the institutional position of the Universidad de Guadalajara, the Department of History, CUCSH, the Editorial Board, or the journal’s editorial team.
Authors retain copyright and economic rights over their works. By publishing in Letras Históricas, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and a non-exclusive authorisation to publish, reproduce, edit, distribute, and publicly communicate their works under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC 4.0), unless otherwise expressly indicated.
